Artist's Statement

Salt is a short film that preserves my grandmother Shirley’s, spirit and artwork, intertwining multiple artistic mediums into one piece. The story follows a young woman who visits a beach, where childhood memories and unprocessed grief resurface. The natural world is both a subject and a metaphor; the movement of ocean waves carries the memory of my grandmother, filling the film with her presence. Ultimately, Salt is more than a visual experience; it preserves her contagious artistic spirit that lives on through the waves and wind.

In creating this film, I treat color and lighting as essential narrative tools, using contrast to shape the subconscious emotional tone within each frame. Experimentation with frame rates and shutter angles helped me craft motion that aligns with the film’s atmosphere. Collaboration is essential to all my work. Through ongoing discussion with my creative team, I cultivate an exchange of energy that makes the development process both positive and rewarding.
